The Im Maek (任脉) is the Conception (or Function) Vessel (CV) Extraordinary Vessel.

Primary path

Originates at ming men and passes through the uterus and connects with CV 1. Then it follows the ren meridian up to CV 24. Along the path it connects internally with the SP, LV and KD meridians. At CV 24 a second branch rises upwards and encircles the mouth and then rises to the eyes at ST 1. A separate branche originates in the pelvic cavity and rises up along the back.

In the Ling Shu it starts in the Danjeun and is linked to all Um paths, acting as Um Ki deposit.

The alchemical practice permits to link the Tok Maek and the Im Maek at the top and the bottom, to permit Ki cycling and distribution.

Function

It is the "Sea of Um ", influencing the um, essence and fluids. Regulates female cycles and reproduction. Affects male genitalia and sexual desire. And regulates the gastrointestinal function. Has effects over thorax, abdomen, genitals, throat, chest, lungs endocrine, urinary and digestive systems
